Legal help in Jamaica for clients living overseas

Property, estates and family matters in Jamaica, handled for you while you live in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada or elsewhere.

Many Jamaicans abroad own land at home, inherit property from relatives, or want to buy a home for retirement or investment. Dealing with legal matters from thousands of miles away can feel daunting. We make it manageable by handling the work in Jamaica and keeping you informed at every stage.

How we help clients overseas

Working across time zones

We arrange calls and video meetings at times that suit you in North America or the UK, and we use email and WhatsApp for day-to-day updates. Documents can be sent electronically for review, with originals couriered when they need to be signed or lodged.

Signing documents abroad

Documents for use in Jamaica, such as transfers, powers of attorney and probate papers, must be signed and witnessed correctly or they may be rejected. Depending on the document, this may be done before a notary public or a Jamaican consular officer. We tell you exactly how to sign before you do.

Protect yourself from fraud. Fraudsters sometimes impersonate law firms by email and send fake bank details. Before sending money, call us on +1 876 677 1345 to confirm our client account details. We will never change our bank details by email.

Questions

Do I need to travel to Jamaica to buy or sell property?

Usually not. Most documents can be signed abroad before a notary public or a Jamaican consular officer, or you can appoint someone in Jamaica under a power of attorney. We explain exactly what is required before you sign anything.

How do I send money for a property purchase?

Funds are sent by bank transfer to our client account, which is kept separate from the firm's own money. Always confirm our account details by phone with us directly before sending money, and never act on changed banking details received by email.

Can you deal with my parent's estate in Jamaica while I live abroad?

Yes. We regularly act for executors and family members who live overseas, from gathering documents to obtaining the grant and transferring or selling the property.
